Focus stacking is mostly used in macro photography, and it is a technique of layering a few exposures of a different focal point to produce a photo with greater focal depth that would normally be possible. In this case you see two exposures, one focused the trees and the other on the moon after they have been merged in photoshop. Try it oput, it is easy and great fun. You can watch here a full length photoshop tutorial on how I created this image.

Taking good photographs can seem easy with all the modern technology, nevertheless there is much more to it then knowing your camera buttons and settings. In fact camera technicalities are the easiest part in learning the art of photography. The true charm of any visual art is hidden in the composition, and in case of photography we compose with shadows, lights and tones. Unlike day time photography, night photography is all about lights, their saturation and relation to one another, then the balance between the light intensity and its positioning and colors.
If you are visiting Tokyo and wish to learn how to capture great images and know how to process them later on contact me and we can schedule a one to one or a small group workshop. More details here. While shooting some stills of Tokyo architecture for a client I could not help taking this photo. The reflections and the overall compositions were too tempting to resist. Then I thought that a straight forward shot is cool and all, but I realized that a double exposure would be perfect for it. So here is it, an abstract architecture photo of some place in Gotham city.
