When I saw this view I had to take the shot, but it was a really tricky one,. I had to shoot through a thick dirty glass at a crazy steep angle. I actually thought it won't come out sharp and that it will be all distorted, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I did some digital blending on this one, as well as creative cloning to cover black patches of trees or parks whatever that was, but this is where shooting in RAW is so great, as you can do anything you want with the photo, including dramatic adjustments like changing the composition. You can enjoy this photo in high res on my 500px site page.

The Imperial Palace in Tokyo is not accessible in most areas, and this includes both of those bridges. So, the only way to place anyone on the bridge is to photoshop them in. There are herd of tourists down near the first bridge at the small moat and although I could snap a few exposure and blend them all in together to remove anyone I'd like, but I thought that compressing the image with a telephoto lens will give me a much more intimate and cinematic feel to the photo. It was a nice image on its own, but adding that woman in red kimono with an umbrella not only creates a powerful tonal contrast between the yellows and greens and the reds, but also adds a subtle yet easily recognizable point of interest to the shot. If I cannot get what you want on camera, I use photoshop to help you complete your artistic vision. Photoshop composites may be quite challenging, since there are many things and details that need to match in order to make the photo look realistic, and if you would like to learn more about photoshop techniques and photo manipulation feel free to contact me directly, and we can schedule one to one private photoshop workshops.

Well, it is simple - no more lazy mornings for you, that is for sure. The best time for landscape photography is during the twilight, both in the both in the morning and in the evening, although the air is much more crisp and clear at dawn. The reason for it is that at night air cools down, the wind settles, and there are much less particles and dust as in the morning. So, if you want to capture great landscape shots, you better get used to waking up really early. We were getting up around 3 am to be at the spot before the dawn, so we can set all the gear and prepare for shooting while it was still pitch black. In case of high mountains such as Fuji you have to remember that the sun will hit the peak first, since it is much higher than anything else around it. You will have a extremely small time gap between the first sun rays hitting the very top and the moment when the sun rises high enough to illuminate a larger area.

I really do not think that it is possible to run out of things to photograph anywhere in the world, but Tokyo is simply perfect for street photography. You walk outside and things just happen all day long. I captured this image on my way to a station near Yurakucho, which is a district full of small bars, stores, older architecture buildings mixed with new structures. It is really quite brilliant for street photography, especially in black and white. This would not work in color, but in monochrome it gains power through contrast, structured sections, dynamic lines, and rather loud content but it works perfectly. If you are visiting Tokyo and would like to book street photography or travel photography workshops with me, contact me directly and we can schedule it.
