There is no such thing as bad light. You just need to know what to do in different light conditions. Hard strong sunlight into the camera is perfect for either backlit portraits, fun with flares or silhouette photography. This is an old photo of mine but I gave it a completely new look. I often revisit my older shots and re-edit them to give them a new look. I took this shot sitting in Oosambashi pier in Yokohama, waiting for the sun to go down so I can shoot the Minato Mirai night view, and I saw people dashing about back and forth. The pier goes up and then rapidly down so it creates an illusion of a fake horizon or edge or some sort. Passing people were forming interesting patterns especially when compressed with a telephoto lens. Oosambashi peir is a really cool place to pursue all types of photography so if you are visiting Yokohama, you should definitely go there. Visit my portfolio to see this shot in full resolution. I selected some photos from past year or so and created a slide show. Those are shots only from Tokyo. I will be creating a similar video that will include all type of artworks that I create (photography, calligraphy, photo manipulations). I am already planing a long timelapse video picturing Tokyo, but I cannot promise you when it will be ready. Timelapses are very time consuming and the end of the year will be rather busy. Watch in HD for best quality, enjoy! My Youtube channel with free photoshop tutorials Photography workshops in Tokyo - click for more details. When I saw this view I had to take the shot, but it was a really tricky one,. I had to shoot through a thick dirty glass at a crazy steep angle. I actually thought it won't come out sharp and that it will be all distorted, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I did some digital blending on this one, as well as creative cloning to cover black patches of trees or parks whatever that was, but this is where shooting in RAW is so great, as you can do anything you want with the photo, including dramatic adjustments like changing the composition. You can enjoy this photo in high res on my 500px site page.

Well, it is simple - no more lazy mornings for you, that is for sure. The best time for landscape photography is during the twilight, both in the both in the morning and in the evening, although the air is much more crisp and clear at dawn. The reason for it is that at night air cools down, the wind settles, and there are much less particles and dust as in the morning. So, if you want to capture great landscape shots, you better get used to waking up really early. We were getting up around 3 am to be at the spot before the dawn, so we can set all the gear and prepare for shooting while it was still pitch black. In case of high mountains such as Fuji you have to remember that the sun will hit the peak first, since it is much higher than anything else around it. You will have a extremely small time gap between the first sun rays hitting the very top and the moment when the sun rises high enough to illuminate a larger area.
