Shichigosan is a early event for your kids, and IO wrote a separate article about it last year, so read more here if you are interested in what it actually is. I took this photo in Kamakura yesterday. There were so many small kids there dashing about in kimono, it was so freaking cute that I just couldn't leave. I wanted to capture something special, something that would tell a story about the event but at the same time allow you to have a glimpse into a private moment between a growing daughter and her mom, who is and always will be there to guide her. There is a saying - if you are good you are lucky, so here you go,, enjoy :-)

I really do not think that it is possible to run out of things to photograph anywhere in the world, but Tokyo is simply perfect for street photography. You walk outside and things just happen all day long. I captured this image on my way to a station near Yurakucho, which is a district full of small bars, stores, older architecture buildings mixed with new structures. It is really quite brilliant for street photography, especially in black and white. This would not work in color, but in monochrome it gains power through contrast, structured sections, dynamic lines, and rather loud content but it works perfectly. If you are visiting Tokyo and would like to book street photography or travel photography workshops with me, contact me directly and we can schedule it.

Here is another black and white shot of the Fuji Television building in Odaiba, Tokyo. Great piece of architecture, accessible from virtually any angle, including the elevated terrace of which fragment you can see up there in the right corner of this photo. I had fun editing this shot, I gave it a milky black and white finish, which fits the sunny yet hazy weather of summer time Tokyo. I said this many times but I will say it again, Odaiba is a crazy place for photographers of any kind, but if you enjoy shooting architecture as I do you will have a blast there for days or even weeks.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo I shot this photo earlier this year I think, but I was never satisfied with any of its edit versions... till today. I realised that all those people passing by are wearing white, and only one girl is in black. So I came up with an idea of a warped image of a fallen angle among the crowd of rushing salary man in Asakusa. In the background you can see the Tokyo Skytree and the famous Asahi Beer Hall building. This photo is a combination of a few editing techniques, including digital blending, black and white conversion, composite photography, and lots of fun with filters. Hope you guys like it!

Hire a photographer in Tokyo The entire Shimbashi area is an absolute feast for an architecture photographer. The glass, the angles, the countless spots to capture amazing shots of a modern city like Tokyo. I am preparing for creating a long timelapse video of Tokyo at night, and Shimbashi is definitely down on my list. Just above my head there is a Yurikamone elevated train, which also offers amazing views of Tokyo. To the left there is this view, and Dentsu building from which you can shoot smashing night panoramas of Tokyo such as this one. Then again behind me there is this building. Honestly, each turn there is a photo to be taken!

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Nakagin Capsule Tower is a very famous building amongst the architects worldwide. It was constructed back in the 70's and is a representative example of metabolism architecture. Today, the tower is falling apart, and barely anyone lives there. The apartments in the tower are microscopic, equipped in one small round window, and a toilet size of the one you will find on an airplane. One of the materials used for constructing the Nakagin Capsule Tower was asbestos, which is most likely one of the main reasons why the building is deserted. The tower was scheduled for demolishing some time ago, but ti met some opposition and the whole thing is in the air at the moment. With no fund to renovate the tower, its future seems gloomy. Because of its interesting structure, Nakagin is a great subject for photography. It is located very close to Shimbashi station, which is in dead center of Tokyo. Here is a shot of the tower that I took very recently, in black and w

Hire a photographer in Tokyo One would think that the great thing about events such as this is that you can shoot photos like mad. Everyone there is an exhibitionist, and they likes to have pictures of themselves taken. Partly it is true, but not in Japan. The organizers made people line up to each cosplayer, then have a quick chat, and then shoot. Now, I wanted to shoot photos of other people taking photos as that is much more fun and interesting. It tells a story instead of being a static posed portrait. I was being bugged every 5 min by the staff, telling me either that I have to line up or that I need permission to shoot. This is so typical for Japan that I didn't even get pissed off. Still, I have managed to grab a few cool photos the way I wanted it, and here is one. Mt friend Tristan helping one of the cosplaying Japanese girls to fix the ribbon of her maid outfit that came loose. Those types of events are a great place to practice your portraiture photography skills, as you have to be quick with reacting and composing, and know your camera well to be able to readjust all the necessary settings on the fly. Model: Aota Yaya (pro cosplayer).

Hire a photographer in Tokyo I went to Shimbashi today to work on one architecture project, and once I was done, I decided to stay around and capture a few shots of modern architecture with ultra wide angle lens. Glass and steel creates wonderful reflections and shadows. Further, it offers great fun in post production, especially when you plan on converting photos into black and white. The Shimbashi station area is loaded with places to shoot, you can literally stand in one spot and just turn around and keep taking photographs. There are amazing view decks there, one is inside the Dentsu building. If you enjoy black and white photography, feel free to visit my channel on Youtube, where you can find many free tutorials on monochrome photography conversion in photoshop.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo When I was taking this shot I wished for this painting or banner to be a bit to the left, but I guess we cannot have everything in life, can we. There was some international event regarding modern architecture going on, and similar banners were placed all over the ground floor. I did not mind having it in my shot, it was based on the concept of ink painting art. Still, you can see how massive and roomy is the interior of this structure. It is so refreshing to walk into a building in Tokyo that does not make you feel claustrophobic. This steel walkways that you can see up there, are on yet another shot of mine taken on the same day, here.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo When tourist visit a famous location they usually photograph what they came for, and skip all other things. As a photographer, one should turn his head like a mad parrot with Tourette's syndrome to be able to see everything from all possible angles. If I took the shot of Tokyo Big Sight from the place I was standing, what you see on this photo would be behind my back. Normally, this view would not be that interesting, but those stormy clouds behind the buildings, and the passing Yurikamone line train combined with the sun setting behind my left shoulder, that was lighting all that glass and metal structures were too good of a dramatic view to pass. In fact it was so good, this is the first photo I took when I arrived at the station there. When I was taking the shot I exactly knew how I will post process it, and that it will be a black and white image. Colour image would not be striking enough.
