Baseball was introduced to Japan in late 18th century. Since then, its popularity was growing, and today it has become a Japanese national sport. In fact, baseball is so popular, and it is appearing in TV or newspapers so often, that some Japanese truly believe, that baseball is a Japanese invention, although, the truth is that baseball is not an exception here. There are many things in Japan, including food, events, fashion, culture, music and so on, that were either imported and assimilated, or borrowed and converted to Japanese style and philosophy of life, and those things have become such a strong and inseparable part of life in Japan, that their true origin is long gone and forgotten. Below photo was taken on a way to meet my Japanese calligraphy teacher, and, believe it or not, it was Saturday morning. Every weekend, those poor Japanese kids get up at 5 am, dress up in their school uniforms, and off they go to take part in extracurricular group activities. Childhood ends very early in Japan.
