The Imperial Palace in Tokyo is not accessible in most areas, and this includes both of those bridges. So, the only way to place anyone on the bridge is to photoshop them in. There are herd of tourists down near the first bridge at the small moat and although I could snap a few exposure and blend them all in together to remove anyone I'd like, but I thought that compressing the image with a telephoto lens will give me a much more intimate and cinematic feel to the photo. It was a nice image on its own, but adding that woman in red kimono with an umbrella not only creates a powerful tonal contrast between the yellows and greens and the reds, but also adds a subtle yet easily recognizable point of interest to the shot. If I cannot get what you want on camera, I use photoshop to help you complete your artistic vision. Photoshop composites may be quite challenging, since there are many things and details that need to match in order to make the photo look realistic, and if you would like to learn more about photoshop techniques and photo manipulation feel free to contact me directly, and we can schedule one to one private photoshop workshops.

Well, it is simple - no more lazy mornings for you, that is for sure. The best time for landscape photography is during the twilight, both in the both in the morning and in the evening, although the air is much more crisp and clear at dawn. The reason for it is that at night air cools down, the wind settles, and there are much less particles and dust as in the morning. So, if you want to capture great landscape shots, you better get used to waking up really early. We were getting up around 3 am to be at the spot before the dawn, so we can set all the gear and prepare for shooting while it was still pitch black. In case of high mountains such as Fuji you have to remember that the sun will hit the peak first, since it is much higher than anything else around it. You will have a extremely small time gap between the first sun rays hitting the very top and the moment when the sun rises high enough to illuminate a larger area.

I really do not think that it is possible to run out of things to photograph anywhere in the world, but Tokyo is simply perfect for street photography. You walk outside and things just happen all day long. I captured this image on my way to a station near Yurakucho, which is a district full of small bars, stores, older architecture buildings mixed with new structures. It is really quite brilliant for street photography, especially in black and white. This would not work in color, but in monochrome it gains power through contrast, structured sections, dynamic lines, and rather loud content but it works perfectly. If you are visiting Tokyo and would like to book street photography or travel photography workshops with me, contact me directly and we can schedule it.

Unfortunately, in most cases people are not photographers, and all they get are rather bad looking snapshots. If one travels alone they have to ask others to take photos of them, and if you are with someone, you will still have to ask a random person to photograph the two of you together. Traveling can be expensive, and Japan is probably one of the most expensive countries you could visit. Further, it is not that easy to get around without being able to speak Japanese, and easily find and access places, especially in Tokyo, which can be intimidating even for people who live in larger cities. If you plan on visiting Tokyo and wish to bring home travel photos that capture not just yourself standing looking stiff in front of a famous building, but want images that reflect the real atmosphere of the Metropolis with yourself seamlessly blending with the surroundings, or you want photos that will be cinematic or much more artistic and appealing in nature, photos that would be unique, then why not consider booking a professional photographer to assist you during your visit. Some things happen once in a lifetime, it is up to you to make them count.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Check out my new portrait photography website! I have a great appreciation for street photography. It is spontaneous, although not always, it is also very personal, and real. It is not posed or thought out, especially when compared to studio shots. On the other hand, I have this dilemma of invading people personal spaces, which is amplified if you shoot wit a wide angle lens. The wide angle lens creates depth, it brings you close to the scene, and lets the viewer "be there" with the photographer. On the other hand, I always feel like I a steeling someones privacy. I think this is why I love portraiture photography. It is like street photography but since the model knows that he or she will be photographed, there usually is natural resistance against being photographed, unless we are talking professional models. And the hardest part of portrait photography is to evoke natural emotions through building a connection between the photographer and the model. It is true that portrait photographers are skilled psychologists, who can get through all masks and barriers straight to the core of a person they photograph. This is what can be bypassed in street photography, through the element of surprise. Anyways, here is a shot that I took near Yakitori Alley in Yurakucho, during a photowalk with a client.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Here is a fun street capture of evening life in central Tokyo, it is an interior of a sushi bar in Yurakcho, a very colorful district which is simply amazing for street photography photowalk. I have created a video tutorial in which I explain how to convert a photo into black and white without need of going into photoshop for further adjustments. Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Shiodome Tokyo - one of the coolest spots for modern architecture photography. A place where you can find it all, from elevated glass panel walkways that are light up at night, to suspended automated trains, steel and glass futuristic structures, the rush of metropolis, gazillion of perspectives and angles, and countless spots to shoot both at night and during the day. Some buildings are famous and iconic, like the Nakagin Capsule Tower, and some are new and just amazing. Walking around dont forget to look up, so you wont miss cool views like this one. Happy shooting!

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art This shot really show the buzz of Tokyo. Condensed scene, small space, rushing people, everything being organised, etc. The composition is also quite peculiar. Normally, the girl who is carrying the barrels should not be cut off at her shoe soles like this, but I went ahead and cropped this photo in tighter, regardless. I wanted those girls to be a part of their bar or restaurant, cut like jigsaw puzzle together with signs and boards and lights and small roofs. I wanted to make this photo feel even more congested, cramped and squeezed. I wanted to shoot this at 200mm, but with street photos you shoot when you see a scene happening. 2seconds later it was all gone. I greatly appreciate the elusive momentum of street photography, the capturing of the moment and all, but it does feel a bit invasive to me, which is why I rarely shoot it. I am not too comfortable with crashing into the personal space of others and abusing it, but street photography does have a unique charm to it, which often difficult to pass on.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art Lots of photographers panic when they see harsh sunlight outside, and prefer to shoot during overcast or on a cloudy day, when the light is evenly cast and much more soft. I, on the other hand, love hard light, strong shadows and powerful textures, they are the soul of an image. Portraits are more dynamic, and, if you know how to use the light and how to control it, they can still be soft and dreamy. I love this photo, definitely one of my favorite portraits, I knew I want to go vintage black and white with it. The hat, the sun, the dress, the expression, t all fits. Get your gear out in hard sunlight and explore what you can do with it. Model: Rita.

Hire a photographer in Tokyo Buy original Chinese and Japanese calligraphy art There are numerous great places in Tokyo with great architecture, in fact the entire city is just one wicked candy store for a photographer. But some places are different than others. For example, the Kaihim Makuhari area around Tokyo Bay in Chiba prefecture has some amazing spots for architecture shots. The photo below shows Makuhari Messe convention and trade shows complex, which si massive. I have spent 4 days photographing it inside and outside. Then if you look afar towards the tall buildings at the back in the center of this photo, you will find there a spectacular modern office building area, with elevated walkways. I highly recommend it for black and white and abstract architecture shots.
